Balancing the needs between future growth and current needs, resources are
needed for both the ongoing construction of the infrastructure as well as for the
day to day needs of the nuns.

Day to Day Requirements
Food is very simple for much of the year – the nuns eating rice with chilis for most meals. Increasing the quality of food is expensive since it is not generally available locally. Fresh food is available during the relatively short regional growing season, during which, the nuns tend their own garden. Money generated from Pema Choling organizations help to support the nuns – providing food and important educational supplies. Personal care items though, are the responsibility of the nuns themselves, so sometimes it is necessary for them to travel to the local village to work in some capacity in order to acquire what they need.

Constuction Project

Currently, the first phase of the hostel is complete and all students and teachers are housed comfortably in simple but practical rooms. The hostel does have indoor plumbing facilities, but running water is not yet available to make them functional. There is very limited electrification – one circuit run by a solar panel. A Central Meeting space is also completed.

The next priorities for construction, some of which are underway:

Finishing the water system

An updated and expanded Kitchen facility separate from the main hostel. Currently, food is prepared in large pots over fire in a small inadequate building.

A Guest House would provide a source of income for Pema Choling, providing a place for visitors to stay.

Retreat facilities – after the nine year curriculum, some graduates will choose to enter into traditional three year retreat.

A large multipurpose hall for assemblies, teaching, ceremonies, and other larger events

A Cultural Center
